Let's face it, the four companies permitted by the White Mountain Apache Tribe and the Globe Ranger District of Tonto National Forest are running basically the same trip with basically the same equipment. We feel Salt River Rafting stands apart for the following reasons:
1) The owners have been on the Salt since 1996 and are hands on, actually at the river running the show day to day.
2) Our 10am meeting time means it is usually warmer when you get on the river, and gives you more time to get there.
3) We take safety very seriously, helmets are required for ALL trips, unlike 50% of our competition. Helmets on Class III rivers are not an industry standard, but once you understand the remoteness of this canyon you will see why we think it WILL be the industry standard.
4) There is a saying amongst seasoned veteran guides, "dress for the swim, not the weather." Although falling into the river is rare, it is a part of rafting, otherwise you would be at Disney World. We are very pro-active about what you wear on the river; wetsuits, booties, helmets and life jackets make the difference between a swim that's a good story to tell and a swim that will discourage you from ever rafting again. Make sure this equipment is available for everyone when choosing the company you book your trip with.
5) Respect for the people's land we are guests of. We are the only outfitter who has trained and employed local Apache guides.
6) We have redefined the Inflatable Kayak (Ducky) trip. Our experience has shown this to be a HIGH ADVENTURE trip on the Salt River demanding better than average physical condition and a "git 'er done" attitude. For this reason we maintain the highest guide to client ratio of any company which has been noted by the Tonto National Forest Service in our evalutaion. A raft accompanies every Ducky trip to handle any circumstance.
7) We have the funnest guides, the coolest dogs, and the most colorful busses in the canyon, really, we do.
8) I could go on with reasons why I think our company is the best, but I will let the Forest Service evaluation speak for itself. Our 2007 Forest Service evalution was the highest of the four companies permitted to run the Salt River. We received the highest rating of More
than Satisfactory in the following categories:
*Guides with advanced first aid and swiftwater rescue
training
*Client to guide ratio for inflatable kayaks (duckies)
*Comprehensive pre-trip safety briefing
